nokia n97 051 Nokia N97 firmware update 2.1 will be released on Monday Changelog included

The Nokia N97 software update release 2.1 will be available through the Nokia Software Updater on Monday 1 February. Software availability

As usual, Nokia will published standard non-customised versions of the software, with country (SIM-free) and operator versions following over the next few days and weeks. The Nokia N97 (and several other devices) can check automatically for new software. Go to Menu > Applications > SW Update and enable automatic checking.

Using your PC to update

Initially, this software update is only available through the Nokia Software Updater. Due to wealth of new content available in this release, the over-the-air "FOTA" packages are larger than normal (around 17MB) and to allow for sufficient testing, delivery will be slightly delayed.

Backups before updating your Nokia N97 are not essential, but to help you get the most from your new software, we recommend that you sync your device or make a backup excluding settings before updating. After the update, reset your device by keying *#7370# and enter your lock code (default = 12345). Then you can resync your device and restore your backup. Finally, visit Ovi Store to download the latest versions of your favourite applications.

  1. Tomorrow’s gonna be an exciting day again for N97 users.. :)

  2. There was a time I would have been excited, but with the N97 I know its going to be a disappointment as usual.

  3. yeah very happy…hope the fone getting stuck at nokia screen bug is sloved and kinectic scrolling is smother…coz few themes make the fone scrolling really slow…and bluetooth connectivity with bluetooth headset is sloved…coz its starts to disconnect and reconnect many times….and my new fone bb is cmg tom as well…so double celebration….god bless all

  4. I am so happy that the update is available I for one have been wait so long for it….lol
    but are these all the updates
    * Improved call reliability
    * Smooth touch screen scrolling
    * Browser improvements
    * Music player improvements
    * Improved image and video stability
    (sigh) Well none-the-less thanks nokia I think…

  5. i still don’t have the old version 2.0 never mind 2.1

  6. So… they’ve not fixed any of the glaring issues then, just touched up the browser and music player?

    I want the messaging centre to not be a pile of balls. And to be able to uninstall some of the useless apps that are on there wasting my C drive.

  7. is dis update valid for the n97 mini also..??

  8. And it’s out for d/l… :)

  9. Yes! Currently downloading 142.8MB. Hope I can feel the changes.. :)

  10. Nokia N97 the best phone! =)

  11. Deliveryman says:

    Well my facebook application started working again now so thumbs up for that :-) besides that did i not see any other things yet but did also just install it now

  12. The update seems to be great with the following exeption:

    It has rendered the music player almost unusable!

    With the previous music player, you could press the “Back” button and it would take you to your list of music or podcasts. Now the “Back” button just dumps you all the way out to the phone’s home screen (just like the end button.) Now, in order to go to your playlist you have to “options”, “go to music library”, “albums (or podcasts or playlist etc)” then find the album or playlist you were playing, then find your song or track. That’s 5 more steps than necessary. The back button is very inportant with the way this media player was designed. You can’t just eliminate it in such a way. What good is the improved scroling in the music player if you take away our ability to navigete.

    This would be such an easy fix. Just make the Music player’s “Back” buton do what it used to do instead of duplicating what the “end call” button already does.

    The media player on a device is very inportant. The one on this device is very ordinary. But i put up with it because I am a loyal and very very patient nokia user. I waited 8 long months for this update. And now you just took my media player away. You are very close to making a 12 year nokia user switch to Android. Nokia, please give me back my “back” button. and don’t make me wait a long time for it.

    Thank you.

  13. My N97 was not feeling well before this update.
    The phone did not boot without hard reset, i had no GPS signal and the menu very slow.
    Now the GPS is working good, The phone now boot without problem. and the menu is smooth.
    Before update, i reformated massmemmory, installd the update then a hard reset.
    Now i´m happy again.
    The last thing to do is to exchange the &%!&# lens cover.
    So i can use the camera with the flash again.
