Posted by: Phat^Trance in Gallery, Nokia
There is a new unannounced Nokia phone in town which expected to be revealed in a couple of weeks in Spain. The yet to have a name C5, is a new smartphone expected to see the day light during MWC 2010 in Barcelona. Don't hold your breath for C5. This is a mid-end smartphone. According to my ninja buddy Cre_Rec the C5 specs are:

- 3.2MP camera
- HSDPA / HSUPA
- 2.2" QVGA screen
- 50MB internal memory
- MicroSD Slot
- GPS / A-GPS
- 3.5MM audio jack
- FM Radio

for sure.. who needs a device like this??
niiice phone
C-Series Anyone?
@reclam
“for sure.. who needs a device like this??”
Lots of people do. Not all want phone with touch screen.
Quote from article:
“* Symbian S60 FP2 OS”
Eh? What’s that?
I think you mean:
* Symbian OS 9.x (not sure about exact version)
* S60 3rd edition fp2
FP2? isnt this just going backwards??!
You would’ve thought a new series would bring something revolutionary. What’s the point wasting the opportunity to create a new brand on some crappy phones like this. Xseries could have been so much more than it is. And now we see the same about to happen with the Cseries. Maemo for the takeover
As much I as I like simplicity, why the hell are Nokia going backwards. I’ve got NO faith whatsoever in any of the phone manufacturers pushing technology frward this year. only HTC are the ones which will push thier hardware/software forward. As you all know I hate Apple so they’re not worth mentioning, they’ll just churn out a ecycled model from last year too. Why Nokia, I really hope to God this ain’t your showing for MWC 2010, and what’s more I thought you guys were a no show for MWC!
The 16GB X6 ws a disappointment too, I was expecting a fresh brand new handset with mind blggling specs, I’m slowly going off smartphones now. The evolution of technology is way too slow for a device whose lifeline is 6-12 months long. Cars have an average lifespan of 7 years yet I see more happening with more change and a long sighted view of the tech ahead with engine efficiency as well as car tech than what we are witnessing with the stale smartphone market. The technology is EXACTLY the same as it was 3 years ago only now some phones are faster than others, and I’m getting seriously concerned that by 2020 if we’re still here, smartphones will look EXAXTLY the same and NOTHING revolutionary will come along. Unlike in 2003, where the intro of camera phones was really something to be wowed about the the evolution of 3G and colour screens, 7 years later, look where we are now. Just afew niggles added on, GPS/wifi and a few models which have 1GHZ processors when in reality, we should have seen this tech 4 years ago. Absolutely pathetic
And also, I agree with The Nokia Review’s comments.
I believe Nokia do NOT listen to the consumer, people don’t want Symbian anymore. More are demanding Maemo, yet their short sighted strategy of limiting mass market advertising for Maemo will hurt them when the likes of Android and yes, Iphone are pushing them out. This should be a lesson to Nokia, they should be the masters of innovation and explorers of new technology, I’m no fan of the N900′s form but give the UI a more edgy futuristic look and don’t follow Android’s horrid looking windows 95 like Icon Based interface and you have a winner. The N920 should ideally be a 4.3 capacititve touchcreen running MAEMO 6, has a 12mp camera with Xenon Flash and a screen res of no less than 800 x 480, in fact I’d say no less than the res found on Netbooks, so we’re going into the 1200 x ??? mark. This is what HTC are doing with HD3, plus they are increasing the ROM. This is what Nokia should be doing, after the N95 8GB they have become very lazy and have put all thier effort into the flawed N97, which is a flop running a horrid and dated UI. A message to Nokia: The N97 died a long time ago, time to replace it. Bring the Communicator’s successor back, invest your time in Maemo 6 and PLEASE do not release sub par crap like this which we are seeing now! This is the year 2010 ffs, wake up!
“FP2? isnt this just going backwards??!”
No it is not. Some of you guys really don’t seem to understand that not all want phone with touch screen. And currently S60 3rd edition is more suitable for the non-touchscreen phones than S60 5th edition.
@Bill
“I believe Nokia do NOT listen to the consumer, people don’t want Symbian anymore. ”
That’s simply bullshit. You should really talk only about yourself. If YOu don’t want Symbian it does not mean others don’t.
“You would’ve thought a new series would bring something revolutionary.”
Actually the reason why Nokia created X and C-series was to make phone modelnames more descriptive. The problem has been that eg. model name Nokia 6110 does not tell what kind of phone that is. but eg.Nokia X6 is more easy, it’s a music phione.
I don’t know what kind of phones C-seies will have but it could eg. include non-touch screen Symbian smartphones which are cheaper than E-series phones.
Are you sure this is a symbian model? Where is the all so mighty menu key that has been in a symbian phone in all the models?
Oh yeah. Just too blind to notice the home key. Damn that button is small.
@Miksuh
Look I aint saying I hate Symbian, or anything of that sort. All I was saying was Nokia has or should I say had, the opportunity to really put something into the mix, whether it be in the quest to categorize their handsets, so be it. They could at least introduce something new. How about Xseries with lifetime comes with music subscription for example, instead of just for the duration of the contract period.
Maemo is something new, fantastic and intuitive, but NEW nevertheless. We don’t want what’s already out there, well I don’t anyway, because my E71 does everything I need, and probably does it better than phones like this.
I’m just saying, its cool Nokia acquired this new series to categorize its handsets better or whatever, but how about announcing it with a bang.
@ miksuh
Actually, I’m not the only one. You are the minority who actually like Symbian whose form is just dying a slow death. I have facts to back this up, just ask the overwhelming majority of smartphone users who are ready to ditch the OS along with the current OS of WinMo in favor of superior slicker interfaces, and I’m no fan of Android’s bland dated UI or the tacky iphone.
Plus, i stand by what I say. Recession or no recession, handsets are affordable unlike thier motor counterparts. The difference is, that the Motor is a more complex machine yet the manufacturer and creative team have a larger vision of the future, the mobile industry as it is, is incredibly short sighted. Ten years ago, people were dreaming of what our handsets would look like in ten years, they’d be quite disaapointed to see this pile of shite which resembles the classic candybar without a monocrhome screen, the specs are dull and out of date. The tech itself, not forward thinking. Ovi Store/app Store are NOT visions of the future, the way we use our handsets and the way the information is relayed to us is, very similar to how HTC’s Touchflo 3D is, the accelerometer and touch screen tech is nothing new and has been used since 2003, it’s just that Apple polished it 4 years later. Every handset wants to be like the crapple iphone, in reality the manufacturer should be thinking of the NEXT big step rather than implementing a useless device with buttons, why hasn’t the RFID/Augmented reality tech advanced and is still in it’s infant stages when this should have been realised years ago, why is it only a number of handsets which have the ability to act out as a bus/train travel or credit card when the majority of handsets should have this. There should be more time invested in the really pushing the limits, a defeatist attitude toward technology and accepting third rate material which is 7 years old is a BIG NO NO. For a device that is ‘supposedely’ supposed to replace th desktop making the internet a more portable use, manufacturers should also be thinking of other handy uses to suit the next generation, not churning out the same material over and over again. Why do you think the crapple phone is doing so well? LOOK around you, pretty much everyone else is adapting to new technology which should have been here sooner, the Crapple Iphone, as much as I hate it, CHANGED the market. Had Jobs not introduced this concept, you can bet your dollar that handsets would have been very much the same and manufacturers woke up and smelt the coffee, people want to try new things. Yes, there was the LG Prada and before that, the Nokia 7710, but the Prada wasn’t marketed properly as the next big thing and Nokia, having the cavemen backward thinking mentality they have, said this was too ahead of it’s time and that no one was ready for this. Had they researched more into this at the time, it would have progressed the industry further and for others to follow, unfortunately Apple took that title three years later. And the best the finnish giant could come up with was a half baked flop known as the N97. This is not a step forward, rather a step backward. If you want to stay ahead in the game, make damn sure you make everyone know you got there first. Not just Nokia, but everyone else is losing it, we’re not seeing anything new when we should be focusing on 4G Tech, all we’re focusing on in the year 2010 is apps, apps and more bloody apps.
OK, good points about the current tech: GPS, Free Ovi Maps which actually performs better than Tom Tom, clear laid out maps whether it be terrain or sattelite, something which wasn’t possbile half a decade ago and the ability to tag youself in a photo and pin point in on your GPS locator and forward it to a friend. Video calling, which came too quickly, and already the service charges are astronomical and reception is lacking to support the service. Mobile TV is still in it’s infant stages, not in Japan however.
Very nice phone, hope video recording ability at least on par with n95
lemme tell something…count the guys right now in this post talking about no more faith in nokia…then count those guys not here and buying nokia…see the difference your self
@bill—if you disagree that much then please EMAIL or PM that particular guy…i dint even read your single word…..waste of lines for DM site
All I see, is a cheap phone with gps for the silent majority of users who want something simple. I don’t get how people don’t get that in western world fe. most people are soon over 50 years old. Of all of the over 50 year olds i know, only one has an iPhone. They don’t want touch screen, they want something to make calls with, and if it has a gps or camera on it, they might use it. Most likely not.
iPhone and N900 users are a loud minority that makes so much noise, it’s easy to forget they are a minority.
Someone had informations about the pricing of the phone ? I think this phone is dedicated to the Asian market (Remember Nokia Q4: +38% sales in Asia / 34% China)
A simple low cost phone with some feature. Sure there is a HUGE market for it (of course not among us tech blog readers!)
@Bill Great comments otherwise, but you seem to be a bit biased when it comes to Symbian when you say: “Symbian whose form is just dying a slow death. I have facts to back this up”
Share the facts or stop talking bull****. The vast majority of consumers couldn’t care less which OS a phone has, as long as it works well and is easy to use.
Symbian is by far the leading smartphone platform, and actually gained market share last quarter. Most people find Nokia easy to use, despite all the humdrum claiming otherwise. Nokia’s recent results actually back this up in hard numbers.
Last time checked Nokia has about the same market sare as the number 2, 3, 4 and 5 combined. Consumers vote with their wallets, better get used to it.
As for innovation, to my understanding the slowdown is caused by operators protecting their profit margins on SMS and data traffic, limiting the market for high-end phones. This is the one thing that Apple did well and helped them gain such popularity: the unlimited data plan. As soon as unlimited dataplans become common,
I’d guess it will sell 10s of millions. Of course none of you GEEKs will buy it
good phone……the nokia eseris famly

The Nokia C5 features a 2.2 inch QVGA display, Symbian S60, HSPA connectivity, A-GPS, 3.5mm headset jack, 3.2MP camera, FM radio, 50MB of internal memory, and MicroSD card support – so, yeah, it’s a mid to low-end phone that will probably have a low price. Why? http://bit.ly/nokia-c5-latest-update
