android 4 4 500x281 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 Kitkat rollout starts on international models

Sure, it's disappointing to see that only 1.4 percent of active Android smartphones and tablets run Android 4.4 KitKat, but that number took its first step to increasing today. Samsung has started its update process to bring the Galaxy Note 3 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat in one country, and history means that several other countries are next up to bat.

The Android 4.4.2 update is now available for download in Poland through the Samsung Kies computer software. This is for the model with a Snapdragon processor, according to Sam Mobile, and an over-the-air version should follow soon. Based on past updates, other unlocked models and phones that aren't tied to carriers should start having the option to download within a few weeks. However, which countries will be included among the list is unknown since Samsung hasn't made any announcements. Polish Galaxy Note 3 owners can launch Kies to update the software, and users based in other parts of Europe can hope that the same opportunity will arrive for them in the coming days.

galaxy camera 2 Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 hands on

The Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 carries on the tradition of Samsung trying to merge its dominance in Android with its growing camera pedigree. The concept is that aside from having a point-and-shoot camera with optics superior to your smartphone, it has the same connectivity and app opportunities as a web-enabled phone. Samsung has done a good job of designing a camera and putting some smart features into it. There's still some room for improvement because the pre-production software included with the Galaxy Camera 2 is not as fast as it should be with 2GB of RAM and a 1.6GHz quad-core processor. However, there's reason to be encouraged by what could be a good product once more details are available. With everything that we expect our mobile devices to do for us, they are becoming less of a smartphone and more of a computer. One of the biggest keys to keeping these devices zippy isn't the processor - although it is important - it's really the RAM that keeps your device from being slowed down while doing several things at once. Samsung is keenly aware of this issue and has been upping RAM on their devices for a while now, and now there is word that in 2014, they could do it again by shipping devices with 4GB of RAM.
